Happy Second Sunday of Advent ~ December 7, 2014

The Good News!

image

And there were shepherds living out in the fields near by, keeping watch over their flocks at night.  An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.’

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’ ~ Luke 2: 8-14

This angel has been on the top of our tree for as long as I can remember. I used to have the box it came in until a couple years ago….bought at Sears in 1978. That’s a long time to sit up there year after year. A symbol of the Good News that was shared over 2000 years ago.

I was drinking my coffee and enjoying the morning when this passage came to mind. I could hear Linus from Charlie Brown telling us “what Christmas was all about.” In all the hustle ans bustle of the days I seem to forget the true meaning. It’s not about the presents the kids will open and eventually fight over. It’s not about finding the right gift for mom and dad. We already have the PERFECT gift. He is the perfect size, appropriate for any age, speaks every language under the sun, and requires no assembly. The best past of all, He’s free! We just have to accept Him.

I pray that you are blessed beyond measure this Christmas and that you receive the Perfect Gift!

Have a great week!
